Brief Biography of Board Members

Guido Ciprandi, MD.
Guido Ciprandi graduated from University of  Rome La Sapienza (UR1)  in 1982, 1987 and University of Rome Tor Vergata (UR2) in 1992. His training in general and thoracic surgery was done at the Clinics for General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery of UR1 and UR2, and in Pediatric Surgery at the Bambino Gesu’ Children’s Hospital, in Rome. He spent the next years between the Microvascular Clinics of Saint Joseph Hospital in Paris, Children’s Hospital in Boston and La Timone Hospital “des Enfants Malades” in Marseille. 
In 2001, he became responsible for the Experimental Laboratory Research Center in Palidoro, at Bambino Gesu’ Children’s Hospital. In 2012 he was appointed Managing Director for Pressure Ulcer and Complex Lesions Project in the Unit of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery, Bambino Gesu' Children's Hospital, IRCCS, Rome, Italy.
Dr. Ciprandi is a member of numerous national and international organizations, including the European Pediatric Surgical Association, Italian Association for Pediatric Surgery, European Wound Management Association. He is also Trustee in European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and President of the International Society of Pediatric Wound Care.
Dr. Ciprandi has contributed extensively in the various fields of Pediatric Surgery, including Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, Thoracic and Tracheal Surgery, Oncological Surgery, Microvascular surgery, Fetal Surgery, Wound Care, Complex Wounds and Noma, NPWT, Skin Bioengineering. Among his clinical research efforts are studies concerning Hirschsprung Disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Wilms’ Tumor, Neuroblastoma, Pressure Ulcers, Neonatal Ulcers, Propeller flaps. Additionally, Dr. Ciprandi has influenced his field through educational activities. He is  Professor of  Wound Care at the Universities of Rome, Florence and Trieste. He is also a frequent Invited Lecturer and Visiting Professor throughout the world and Author of more than 200 scientific publications.
 
 
 
Sundeep G. Keswani, MD. 
Dr. Sundeep G. Keswani is a pediatric and fetal surgeon. He is also the director of the Pediatric Advanced Wound Care and Skin Service (PAWS), which is a state-of-the-art wound care center devoted to the care of children. Dr. Keswani is the lead principal investigator in the Laboratory for Regenerative Wound Healing, which is an NIH-funded laboratory that focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms which underlie the fetus’ ability to regeneratively heal wounds with the goal of developing novel therapeutics to achieve regenerative wound healing in postnatal tissue.

Corrado Maria Durante, MD.
Colonel  Durante, presently,  is the Senior Consultant of the Wound Care Unit of the Army Military Hospital of Rome and the Medical Advisor of the Italian Army General Staff. Board in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Professor of Wound Care at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
He currently serves as  General Secretary of the International Society of Pediatric Wound Care (ISPeW). Honorary Treasurer of the Planning Committee of the World Union Wound Healing Society (WUWHS). Dr. Durante is a Council Member of the Italian Wound Care Association (AIUC) too.
Dr. Durante has received awards for his clinical activities in several Humanitarian Missions all over the world.   Author of over 100 scientific papers, he performed the training dvd “ Damage Control in Combat Wounds” in 2012.
 
 
 
Robert S Kirsner, MD. PhD
Dr. Kirsner is Vice Chairman, Professor and is the endowed Stiefel Laboratories Chair in the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine.  He currently serves as director of the University of Miami Hospital Wound Center and Chief of Dermatology at the University of Miami Hospital.  In addition to his medical degree, his training includes a PhD in epidemiology and a 2 year clinical and research fellowship in wound healing.  Dr. Kirsner serves on the editorial boards for a number of journals in dermatology and wound healing including Wound Repair and Regeneration, Wounds, and Ostomy and Wound Management.  Dr. Kirsner is a former board member of the Wound Healing Society and now chairs the Guidelines as well as the Government Regulatory Committees for the WHS.  He is a founding member and past president of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC).   For the past 2 decades, he has co-directed of the largest multi-disciplinary wound care meeting in the United States, the Symposium for Advanced Wound Care (SAWC).   He also chairs the Medical Advisory Board for Healogics® Corporation which manages over 550 wound centers in the US. 
 
Dr. Kirsner has received awards for his research, teaching and clinical activities.   Author of over 350 peer reviewed papers, his research interests in have been funded by a variety of federal agencies and foundations and he currently is funded by the NIH for work in wound healing. He also is co-editor of the comprehensive book, “Wound Healing”. 
 
 
Anna-Barbara Schlüer, PhD, MScN, RN
Anna-Barbara Schlüer workes as an advanced nurse practitioner in pediatric wound, skin and ostomy care. In this position she is in charge of pediatric patients with highly complex and severe wound and skin conditions as well as challenging enterostoma and fistula care. Since 2011 she has been an elected member of the ethical board for human research of the Canton of Zurich as a representative for the nursing profession and pediatric health care. She is head of the department of clinical nursing science at the Pediatric University Hospital in Zurich since 2009, and a member of the research center for the child at the same institution, representing nursing as a research discipline.

She is co-president of the Swiss academic association for pediatric nursing and a member of the association Swiss Advanced Nursing Practice (SwissANP). She is married and mother of four daughters, born in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011 and lives with her family in Winterthur, Switzerland.
 
 
Giorgio La Scala, MD, PD 
Dr. Giorgio C. La Scala is a Pediatric Surgeon, specialized in Pediatric Plastic Surgery with a three year clinical and research fellowship in plastic and craniofacial surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. He works at the University of Geneva Children’s Hospital, where he is responsible for the care of burns and trauma, vascular anomalies and hemangiomas, congenital skin lesions, head and neck surgery, and co-responsible for congenital and trauma hand surgery. He is also active in teaching reconstructive surgery techniques both in Switzerland and in emerging countries.
Dr. La Scala serves as the Recorder of the International Society of Pediatric Wound Care (ISPeW), and is the vice-president of the Swiss Society for Cleft Lip and Palate and Related Craniofacial Anomalies and of the Swiss Group for Vascular Anomalies in Childhood.
 
 
 
Amulya Saxena, MD PhD DSc(hon) FRCS(Glasg)

Amulya Saxena is an award-winning Paediatric, Neonatal and Adolescent Surgeon, who graduated with the highest honours in Medicine, before training in Paediatric and Neonatal Surgery at the Medical University of Münster, Germany. He was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Department of Paediatric- and Adolescent Surgery, Medical University of Graz, Austria, where he also served as the Head of Experimental Foetal Surgery and Tissue Engineering Unit, before moving to London in 2013.
Amulya Saxena was a Research Fellow in Surgery at the Boston Children´s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, USA. He gained further experience in Paediatric Surgery at the Children’s Mercy Hospital, University of Missouri, Kansas City, USA, the Hospital 12 de Octubre, Universidad Complutense, Spain, The Foetal Centre, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Centre, University of Cincinnati, USA and the Juntendo University Medical School, Tokyo, Japan.

Timothy W. King, MD, PhD, FAAP, FACS 
Dr. Timothy W. King is a pediatric plastic surgeon and director of plastic surgery research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  He is also an Associate Professor with Tenure in the Departments of Surgery and Biomedical Engineering and the chief of plastic surgery at the Birmingham VA Hospital.
He completed his plastic surgery training at the Institute of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the New York University Medical Center followed by a fellowship in pediatric plastic surgery at the Northwestern University Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.
He has a Bachelors and Masters degree in Bioengineering from Texas A&M University and a PhD in Biophysics from MD Anderson Cancer Center where he also obtained two patents in biodegradable microspheres. His clinical practice concentrates on plastic and reconstructive surgery in infants, children, and adults. His NIH-funded laboratory focuses on developing regenerative therapies for cutaneous wounds. He is a past recipient of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons Academic Scholar Award and the American College of Surgeons Louis C. Argenta Faculty Research Fellowship, two of the most prestigious foundation career development awards available to a surgeon. He is the President-Elect for the Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC), Vice President of the American Association of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons, on the program and membership committees of the Wound Healing Society and is the Associate Editor of Plastic Surgery and Wound Healing for the Journal of Surgical Research.
 He has also been selected for membership into the Society of University Surgeons, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, and the Surgical Biology Club II.
